What is Bottlebrush Education?

Bottlebrush Education is a free, browser-based primary science teaching resource for Years 3–6 in Australia. It combines science lesson plans, demonstrations, simulations, printable investigation records, slides and teacher-managed class activities.

Who is it for?

Primary classroom teachers, science specialists, small or regional schools and relief teachers looking for structured, accessible science lessons. It is designed for Australian school contexts and includes links to Australian Curriculum v9 and Victorian curriculum planning.

What does it include?

The public catalogue currently contains 147 lessons across 45 topics. Topics span materials and chemistry, living things, Earth and space, forces and energy. Lessons are designed around a teaching question and include teaching resources and student recording opportunities; practical requirements and format differ by lesson.

How do classes use it?

Any visitor can browse public lessons and explore activities. Teachers request approval for a free account to present and assign work and review student responses. Students use details supplied by their teacher to enter the class area. Teachers remain responsible for selecting appropriate lessons and supervising science and digital activity.

Does it work without iPads?

Some lessons can be taught using teacher projection and paper, while others are hands-on investigations with everyday equipment or digital activities. Use each lesson's materials label and teacher instructions to plan suitable access, rather than assuming every task is automatically paper-only.

Is the curriculum alignment officially endorsed?

No. Curriculum references are planning links that schools and teachers need to verify against the current official documentation. Bottlebrush is an independent project and is not presented as approved or certified by an Australian education department or ST4S.

What does it cost?

Public resources and approved teacher/class access are currently offered free of charge. For how teacher and student information is handled, read the privacy and security explanation.
